Chris and Anton team up to review your fave restos

herorestoreviews

He knows food, he knows wine – what a formidable pair! The dynamic duo of Chris Urbano (Maputing Cooking) and Anton Diaz (Our Awesome Planet) are off on gastronomic quests to uncover the most delectable dishes and exquisite food pairs in the restaurants of Metro Manila.

Calderon Makati, Salcedo Village

Their journey starts off in Calderon Makati in Salcedo Village. This Spanish tapas bar and resto offers tapas, paellas, sopas, and pasta among others.

lengua  chorizo and cheese  adobado

Chris’ favourites

  1. Lengua con Setas – despite being a cream-based dish, the gamy texture of the meat paired surprisingly well with the red Pizzini Sangiovese.
  2. Esparragos En Aceite de Olive – perfectly paired with the white Pizzini Arneis.

Anton’s favourites

  1. The chorizo and cheese dish
  2. Lamb Adobado – when enjoyed with the Pizzini Sangiovese, the lamb actually tasted sweeter, which made for an interesting food pair.

Smith Butcher Bar and Grill, Makati

The next quest brings the duo to Smith Butcher Bar and Grill in Makati. The specialty steakhouse gives its customers a personalized steak experience with its collection of dry aged wines flown in from Japan, Australia, US and Europe – proudly displayed in a “meat museum” room. Posh but friendly, and beautifully decorated with handcrafted furniture pieces, there are very distinct seating areas channeling different moods – for the perfect dining setup for wine/bar drinkers, big groups, romantic couples, friends, colleagues and family.

tunatartare beefcarpaccio japaneseomni

Chris and Anton’s Favourites

  1. Tuna Tartare – a must try. Enjoy with the Pizzini Rosetta to cut through the fat of the tuna
  2. Prime Beef Carpaccio – flavors enhanced by the Manchego cheese pair. Enjoy with Philip Shaw Wirewalker Pinot Noir or Chrismont Tempranillo
  3. Japanese Omni – only the best Wagyu from Japan. Pairs perfectly with the All Saints Cabernet Sauvignon.
  4. French Fillet Mignon Tenderloin – lean but tasty. Better paired with a lighter red like the Philip Shaw Idiot Shiraz, though it worked with the full bodied All Saints Cabernet Sauvignon because of the blue cheese.
